About Bible Guessr

In Bible Guessr you read a Bible verse with the reference hidden, then pin where you think it comes from. You place a pin on a coloured timeline that runs from Genesis to Revelation, then zoom in to the book to narrow it down.

Each verse is worth up to 1,000 points, and the closer your pin is to the real verse, the more you score. Landing in the right book scores well even if the chapter is off, so the game rewards knowing the shape of the Bible, not only memorising references.

Ages
Roughly Year 6 and up. Start on Easy, where the timeline names every book, and work up to Insane.
Group size
Solo, or up to 30 players in a room, all guessing the same verse.
Round length
Rounds are set by the host (1 to 20 verses) with a timer for each verse. A short game is about 5 minutes.

Tips for teachers and leaders

  • Use Easy to teach the layout of the Bible: Law, History, Poetry, Prophets, Gospels and Letters. Students quickly learn which section a verse belongs to.
  • Teach students to look for clues in the verse: names, places, and whether it sounds like law, poetry, history, a prophet or a letter.
  • Use the section idea as a tip: get the section right first, then the book. A pin in the right section is already close.
  • Move to Medium or Hard as confidence grows. The level only changes how much the timeline tells you, and scoring is the same on every level.
  • Pick the verse difficulty to suit the group. Easy sticks to the best-known verses, so it works for younger students or a first go; Insane can throw up any verse in the Bible.

Ways to vary it

  • Daily challenge: try the Daily Challenge, which has one Bible Guessr verse a day on Hard.
  • Discuss the miss: after a round, talk about why a verse sounded like it came from a different book.
  • Level up: replay the same number of rounds on a harder level and compare scores.

Frequently asked questions

How is Bible Guessr scored?

Each verse is worth up to 1,000 points. An exact hit scores 1,000, and the score halves for every 1,500 verses your pin is away from the real verse.

What are the difficulty levels?

Easy shows the sections, book names, and the chapter and verse as you zoom in. Medium shows the sections and book names. Hard shows only the sections. Insane is a plain coloured timeline with no words at all.

What is verse difficulty?

It decides which verses can come up. Easy uses the best-known verses, Medium well-known stories and teachings, and Hard less familiar verses. Insane can pick any verse in the Bible, even the genealogies and long lists. It is separate from the difficulty level, which only changes how much the timeline shows.

Which Bible translation does Bible Guessr use?

The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), which is in the public domain. The translation is shown under every verse.

Is there a daily version?

Yes. The Daily Challenge has one Bible Guessr verse a day. Everyone gets the same verse, it plays on Hard with no timer, and you get one try.

Can I play Bible Guessr in a room?

Yes. Everyone guesses the same verse at the same time, the host moves on to the next verse, and the player with the most points wins.
