How to play

The basics

People Chain is a race through the relationships of the Bible. One player creates a room and gets a five-character code to share. The host picks a game, then picks a starting figure and a target figure, and everyone races from one to the other by following labelled connections: father of, married, mentored, killed, and more.

The person you are standing on sits in the middle of the map, with everyone directly related to them fanned out around, the relationship written on the line between you. The first player to reach the target figure wins the round. The results screen then shows each player's time, move count, and the full chain of people they travelled through.

Starting a round

Enter a player name on the home page, or keep the suggested one.
Click Create new room. You become the host and get a five-character code.
Share that code. Other players type it into the join box and press Join friends.
As host, pick People Chain, then search for a start figure and a target figure, or press the dice to randomise one, or shuffle a pair that is guaranteed to be connected.
Press start. Everyone begins on the same figure at the same moment.

Rules and controls

Click a connected figure to move. Only people directly linked to whoever you are standing on can be clicked; further connections are shown faded so you can plan ahead.
Every move counts. Your move count is the number of figures you travelled through, and it is the tie-breaker people argue about afterwards.
Arriving wins instantly. The moment you land on the target figure, your round stops and the room is told.
Surrender if you are stuck. You drop out but stay in the room and can watch the rest. If everyone surrenders the round ends by itself.

A worked example

Say the round is from Ruth to David. A workable route looks like this:

From Ruth, follow "married" to Boaz.
From Boaz, follow "father of" to Obed.
From Obed, follow "father of" to Jesse.
From Jesse, follow "father of" to David. Three moves, done.

The shape of that route is the general recipe: think in family lines and mentoring relationships, and look for the shortest chain of "father of," "married," or "mentored" links between the two figures.

Glossary

Chain: The ordered list of figures you passed through, shown on the results screen.
Connection: A labelled relationship between two figures, such as "father of" or "mentored."
Pair: The start figure and the target figure that define a round.
