About Fix the Chronology

Fix the Chronology is a Bible timeline game. You are shown a handful of events from Scripture in a jumbled order and you drag them back into the order they happened. It might be Abraham's call, the exodus and the fall of Jerusalem, or the birth of Jesus, his baptism and the resurrection.

Many people know the big stories well but have never put them on a single line. This game builds that mental timeline one round at a time. It rewards partial knowledge too: you score points for every pair of events you place correctly, so one slip does not wipe out a good round.

Ages
Roughly Year 5 and up. Younger students do well on Easy with a partner.
Group size
Solo, or up to 30 players in a room. A whole class works well if students pair up on devices.
Round length
About 2-4 minutes per round, depending on difficulty and how many events you choose.

Tips for teachers and leaders

  • Play one round together on the board first, and ask students to explain why they put an event where they did. The reasoning is where the learning happens.
  • Use it right after teaching a unit. Choosing Easy for revision and Hard as a challenge lets mixed-ability classes play the same game.
  • Pair up struggling readers with a confident partner. The events are short phrases, so reading load is low, but the order needs discussion.
  • Start with the big landmarks (creation, the exodus, the exile, the cross) and fit the smaller events around them. It is worth teaching this strategy out loud.

Ways to vary it

  • Silent round: no talking, then compare answers with a partner before the results screen.
  • Team round: each team agrees one order and submits it together.
  • Explain it: after the results, each student teaches the class one event they got wrong.

Frequently asked questions

How is Fix the Chronology scored?

You get a point for every pair of events you put in the right order compared to each other. With five events there are ten pairs, so a perfect round is 10 out of 10. One event in the wrong place only costs you a few points.
