About Sketch & Scripture
Sketch & Scripture is a drawing and guessing game with a Bible twist. One player draws a Bible person, place, object or story, and everyone else types guesses as the picture appears. Everyone takes a turn at drawing.
It is a group game only, so every player needs their own device and there is no solo mode. The host chooses the categories (people, places, objects and symbols, stories and events), Old Testament and New Testament prompts, the number of rounds and the length of each drawing turn.
- Ages
- All ages, as long as players can type a guess. Drawing skill doesn't matter, and bad drawings are half the fun.
- Group size
- 3-8 players works best, and at least 2 are needed. Each player needs their own device.
- Round length
- Each turn is as long as the host sets. A full game is every player drawing once per round, so allow 15-30 minutes.
Tips for teachers and leaders
- It works well as an end-of-week reward or youth group icebreaker, because it gets quieter students laughing and joining in.
- Tell drawers to choose the prompt they can draw most easily, not the one they know best. Simple shapes beat detail.
- Use the host settings to match your lesson. If you have just finished the Old Testament, switch off New Testament prompts.
- Spelling matters for guesses, but capital letters, punctuation and a leading "the", "a" or "an" don't. Mention this to avoid frustration.
Ways to vary it
- Category focus: choose only People or only Places to match your current topic.
- Easy mode for younger groups: use the easy setting and a longer drawing timer.
- Teach back: after each turn, the drawer says one thing they know about the person or story.
